Our Club is made up of 3 teams, each with their different levels of commitment and skill set determined by the coaches. Blue Team, Blue Reserve, and White team are the team names and each have their own schedules. We have something available for every type of student and level of play.
BLUE TEAM
This is our top squad. Best skilled players. Best conditioned players. Total commitment to practices and schedules is a must. We expect a high level of play and a high level of understanding game concepts. This is NOT high school field hockey. We are ranked among the top club teams in the country and we are extremely competitive. We play against some extremely talented and well-prepared teams from all over the nation, so we expect all players in this squad to be ready for anything that comes at them.
BLUE RESERVE
With these players we can see the potential but are not quite ready for playing at the top level. Hopefully, by working hard, and maintaining a positive attitude by mid/end of the season they will be ready to be added to Blue Team roster. These players will still practice and travel with Blue team, except for our major Away tournaments. Playing time is not guaranteed. The coaches want you to see the game and understand the level and work ethic needed to play on Blue Team. Blue Reserve will be mandated to play in the White team games as well. Their work ethic in practice and performance in White team games will dictate and determine when or if they become a re-occuring asset for the Blue team.
WHITE TEAM
These players need a bit more time to improve their skills and conditioning levels or can not commit fully to Blue Team's schedule. This year we made a serious effort to give these squad members as many games and scrimmages as possible. They play against club teams who are not in our league yet, and scrimmage high school teams as well as our home tournament. In the Spring, these players will play in the same league as Blue Team at StarHill. They still will practice with Blue team. But remember, most practices will be geared toward Blue team level. These players will have their own practices just before their White team games. And with work they will have the potential and opportunity to move up to Blue Reserve.
Regardless of what team you are placed on in the UConn Field Hockey Club Team, everyone is invited to all team events, (i.e. team bowling, movie nights, pasta dinners, team trips, etc). We are one team and we all work together to improve each other.
